A “committee of honor,” consisting of notable British personalities, was formed here to pay tribute to the work of Max Liebermann, aged German Jewish impressionist painter, whose work is now being exhibited here.
The gesture, an unusual one, is intended to honor the dean of German artists, whose work is now banned in Germany because he is Jewish. The committee is headed by the Earl of Sandwich and includes Sir William Rothenstein, Jacob Epstein, Viscount d’Abernon, Sir John Lavery and Sir Michael Sadler.
