The 30th annual conference of the Jewish National Fund of Great Britain opened here last night with a report on Israel by Ambassador Eliahu Elath and addresses by British Chief Rabbi Israel Brodie and Gen. Yigal Yadin, former Chief of Staff of the Israel Army of Defense.
A report on last year’s activities of the JNF revealed that 718,300 pounds (approximately $2,000,000) was raised by the JNF in Britain. It was also revealed that considerable progress had been made in raising funds for the planting of a 10,000-tree memorial forest in honor of Dr. Selig Brodetsky.
Ambassador Elath, who recently visited Israel on home leave, spoke of his experience in settlements peopled by chalutzim from Britain. He said that some of these settlements had plenty of land and even water, but needed manpower desperately.
