British military authorities in Tripoli have torn down the barbed wire fence which the Italians erected around the Jewish-populated section of the city, thus releasing the Jews from the ghetto which has been in existence since the Nazi campaign in Libya, the London press reported today.
At the same time the Daily Herald, organ of the Labor Party, carries a despatch from its special correspondent in North Africa establishing that the anti-Jewish laws in Algeria have not yet been rescinded. Leaders of the British Labor Party, at a conference this Sunday in Holborn, adopted a resolution protesting the appointment of Marcel Peyrouton as head of the civil administration in North Africa “because of his anti-Allied and anti-Semitic activities.”
