Top British military and diplomatic officers met with Jordan government and military leaders in Amman yesterday to discuss British “obligations” to Jordan in relation to the present border difficulties between Israel and Jordan, the Times reported today in a dispatch from the Jordan capital.
According to the report the participants in the meeting included; Sir Brian Robertson, commander of the British forces in the Middle East; British Sir John Glubb Pasha, commander of Jordan’s military forces; the British Ambassador at Amman the Jordan Defense Minister; and, the head of the British Middle East Office. After the conference, the Jordan Minister stated that “the meeting was called for by my government. We discussed the continuous Israel aggressions and the obligations of Britain towards Jordan, in accordance with the British-Jordanian Treaty. “
A Lebanese passenger plane today radioed the control tower at Lydda airport in Israel, and requested permission to make an emergency landing because of engine trouble. The trouble must have been taken care of immediately because before the control tower could reply, the Lebanese pilot sent a new message that he was no longer in trouble and would not need to land.
