The development of ties of friendship between Israel and Britain was welcomed here last night by British Minister of Defense Emanuel Shinwell at a dinner at the House of Commons sponsored by the Friends of the Tel Aviv Museum.
The Minister added that the development of Western art and culture in Israel was of “great importance” and that with the return of peace in the Middle East this development would have a “wholesome effect” on the atmosphere in that region. Israel Minister to London Eliahu Elath called for an interchange of artists and art works between Britain and Israel. Sir Philip Hendy, director of the National Gallery, was among the prominent guests at the dinner.
