The Royal Society of Musicians has turned down participation in a pension fund for indigent professional musicians because the donor specified that such aid could not be given to Jewish musicians, it was learned here today.
The fund of 22,000 pounds ($61,600) was contributed by the estate of the late John Archibald to the Agnes Baker Fund for Musicians. Although the Royal Society refused to participate in the fund because its prohibition against Jews violated the society’s constitution, the London Orchestral Sick Fund has appointed three trustees to administer the fund. Some of the London group’s members have expressed opposition to the move.
