A promise to “behave like guests” and not to wear swastikas was given to the authorities today by the leader of the German soccer team which arrived for its scheduled game with a British team on Wednesday at Tottenham.
Police, taking precautions against any possible demonstrations, announced that the Germans would not be allowed to organize a parade. Several thousand rooters from Germany are expected to witness the game.
Protests by labor and Jewish organizations against holding of the game proved unavailing. Answering a request by Sir Walter Citrine, of the British Trade Union Council, that the game be prohibited, Sir John Simon, Minister for Foreign Affairs, declared that he could not interfere since he did not see that the match had any political significance.
