The first ship to leave Montreal for Poland, the British cargo vessel Saint Bernard, sailed today carrying in its hold many cases of clothing as well as 25,000 remodelled army uniforms for Polish Jews.
The shipment was sent by the United Refugee Committee of the Canadian Jewish Congress which bought the surplus uniforms from the War Assets Corporation at a cost of $55,000. The “Saint Bernard” will bring the relief cargo direct to the Polish port of Gdynia from where it will be forwarded to the Jewish Relief Committee in Warsaw.
