Steve Broidy, veteran Jewish community leader, was elected president of the newly merged Jewish Federation-Council of Greater Los Angeles at the organization’s first meeting at the Beverly Hills Hotel. A Community Service Award was presented to Walter S. Hilborn, former Federation president and one of the founders of the Council, for his efforts on behalf of the merger.
The merged organization brings together 30 health, family, child care, recreation and community services to a local Jewish population estimated at 400,000. It also sponsors the annual United Jewish Welfare Fund campaign and works in cooperation with the Welfare Federation of Los Angeles.
