Samuel Bronfman was honored here at a testimonial dinner on the occasion of his retirement as president of the Federation of Jewish Philanthropies, after 18 years of leadership. He is now honorary president of the Federation. A telegram from Francis Cardinal Spellman was among the hundreds of messages of congratulations which Mr. Bronfman received.
An illuminated scroll presented by Phillip Garfinkle, honorary secretary, on behalf of the Federation, lauded Mr. Bronfman’s guidance of both the Federation and Combined Jewish Appeal. “Our work now goes far beyond the ordinary limits of philanthropy and today includes also institutions of culture, learning, good-will and group relations,” said Mr. Bronfman.
