Completion of the new nurses residence at Maimonides Hospital of Brooklyn was announced today by Dr. Irvin J.Cohen, executive vice-president of the institution. The 10-story building, located across from Maimonides Hospital, has been designed to provide modern living accommodations for staff nurses.
The sizes of the living units vary so that a single nurse, nurses wishing to share an apartment, or a nurse and her family can be accommodated. Model apartments have been furnished to show the different arrangements available. Nurses have the option of renting the apartments either furnished or unfurnished. A recreation room, laundry facilities and storage area are provided for the tenants. There are 98 apartments, many with terraces, and a ground floor professional office suite.
Dr. Cohen pointed out that one of the greatest problems facing New York City hospitals is the lack of adequate housing for personnel. Factors such as travel time between home and work and the availability of adequate transportation, are prime considerations to employes who live some distance from their jobs. The new moderate-rental apartments, he indicated, offer the solution to these problems for the nurses who work at Maimonides Hospital.
