Two hundred and ten thousand dollars toward Cincinnati’s goal of $450,000 for Palestine and Jewish relief were subscribed last night at a banquet at the Hotel Sinton opening the United Jewish Appeal campaign embracing the United Jewish Campaign and the United Palestine Appeal.
Samuel Ach, general chairman of the campaign, was toastmaster. Judge William M. Lewis, national chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, and David A. Brown, national chairman of the United Jewish Campaign, were the principal speakers.
A non-Jewish volunteer committee was formed including George T. Crabbs, Fred A. Geier and John Omwake, who each subscribed $2,000.
Among the larger contributors were Henry Meiss, $12,000; Oscar Berman, chairman of the United Palestine Appeal, $6,000; Edward Senior, $7,500; Maurice J. Freiberg, Arthur Joseph, Maurice Joseph, S. Marcus Fechheimer, $6,000 each.
Charles P. Taft, brother of ex-president Taft and publisher of the “Times-Star” in a letter, appealed for support of the drive by all citizens and sent a check for $10,000. Mayor Seasongood sent a message of greeting.
