Rabbi Louis I. Newman of New York was the recipient of the honorary degree of Doctor of Divinity at the 174th Commencement of Brown University here this week. He is an alumnus of Brown in the class of 1913, and holds an M. A. degree from the University of California and Ph.D. degree from Columbia University. For the past 12 years he has been rabbi of Congregation Rodeph Sholom in New York.
