A Boeing 707 took on for Bucharest from London’s Stansted airport Tuesday with 25 tons of medicine and food for victims of the recent fighting in Romania, donated by the Central British Fund for World Jewish Relief.
Kenneth Rubens, president of the Central British Fund, said the cargo included penicillin and other antibiotics, large amounts of powdered milk and baby food, and special donations of kosher food for the Jewish community.
“By flying supplies in directly, we should avoid the distribution problems which the Red Cross has found with its truckloads sent overland from Budapest,” Rubens said.
The Jewish community will supervise the distribution operation.
