Budapest’s only Jewish secondary school, the Anne Frank High School, began its academic year last week in the presence of a former student, Gyorgy Aczel, now a Deputy Minister of the Hungarian government. Aczel attended the school 40 years ago when it was known as the Budapest Jewish High School and had over 1000 pupils. Presently, the student body numbers only 32 but it maintains high standards and prepares its pupils for university entrance examinations in addition to providing them with a thorough religious education.
