The Bulgarian authorities have halted, “for the time being,” the granting of exit visas to Jews wishing to emigrate from Bulgaria to Israel, the Bulgarian Chief Rabbi, Dr. Hananel, disclosed on his arrival here to attend the Jewish scientific congress in Jerusalem.

Of the 6, 000 Jews left in Bulgaria, he said, 2, 000 have registered for emigration. The authorities, he said, do issue a limited number of visas for tourists wishing to visit Israel.
