Dr. Asher Hananel, Chief Rabbi of the Bulgarian Jewish community, told relatives here last night over long-distance telephone that his health was improving and that he was at home after being released on bond for reasons of health, following his sentencing to four-and-one-half years’ imprisonment bh Bulgarian authorities for allegedly "speculating and smuggling."
The relatives, who spoke with Dr. Hananel in Bulgarian, said today that they intend to approach the Bulgarian authorities with a request to grant the rabbi an exit permit to go to Israel, where most of his family now lives.
