The United Nations Conciliation Commission for Palestine was invited today by U.N. acting mediator Dr. Ralph J. Bunche to visit Rhodes where Israeli-Egyptian armistice negotiations are currently taking place. Dr. Banche emphasized in his invitation that the opportunity to consult with the Commission members “would be useful to me and to the negotiations.”
Meanwhile, the Security Council today assumed formal authority over the work of the conciliation body after receiving formal notification from U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie of the commission’s formation by the General Assembly.
A dispatch from Tel Aviv said today that Husseyid C. Yaltchin, Turkish member of the Commission, and two political advisors, arrived there today en route to Jerusalem. The French member of the Commission has been in Jerusalem for several days while Mark Ethridge, the American representative, is scheduled to leave for Palestine tomorrow.
