Police arrested a large number of suspects in the course of an investigation into the theft of religious articles from the Church of the Visitation at Ain Karem on Sunday, it was announced today. Investigators believe the theft was not intended as a desecration of church property, but was burglary.
Church officials estimate the value of the stolen articles at about $300. Ashkenazic and Sephardic Chief Rabbis Isaac Herzog and Ben Zion Uziel visited officials of the Church today to express their regret at the incident.
