Kosher butcher associations throughout the United States were yesterday summoned to attend a convention in New York December 23 and 24 to set up machinery for enforcement of their NRA code granted Monday, it was announced by David S. Andron, counsel to the Federation of Kosher Butchers.

Jubilant over the granting of the code after a one and a half year delay, Mr. Andron said a code authority will be set up with a main office in New York and regional offices in principal cities throughout the United States.

The convention will consider amending the constitutions of the butcher associations throughout the country to conform to the code.

ORGANIZATION SPEEDED

Within the next few days organization of unorganized regions will get under way, Mr. Andron asserted. A research and planning division of the code authority is at present gathering statistics concerning conditions prevailing in the butcher industry.

In addition to aiding the kosher butcher trade economically, the code authority will assist in regulation of kashruth supervision and will aid in enforcement of State kosher food laws.

Although the code provides a forty-eight hour week for butcher workers, Mr. Andron said that the Hebrew Butcher Workers Union yesterday agreed to substitute their contract calling for fifty-two hours a week and a forty-dollar minimum.

CODE REGULATIONS

Among the fair trade provisions of the code are:

No butcher shop may remain open on the Sabbath or Jewish holidays.

The code authority may inspect butchers’ records.

Assessment of butchers for maintenance of the code authority.

Malicious price cutting forbidden.

Prices may be fixed in an emergency.

Sale of non-kosher meat labeled as kosher forbidden.

Misrepresentation of the quality or grade of meat forbidden.
