Carl Byoir, public relations and merchandising specialist, today emphatically denied any connection with the German propaganda machine during a hearing before the Dies Committee investigating un-American activities.
Rep. Wright Patman of Texas charged during the hearing that Byoir had employed Georg Sylvester Viereck, a known German propagandist, prior to 1935 and intimated that the Byoir publicity organization was still connected with the Hitler propaganda machine.
Byoir indicated that his firm did have a contract with the German Government but it was terminated November, 1934, and with the exception of handling publicity for the drive to help starving Chinese victims of the Japanese campaign, his firm has not had any foreign government connections since that date.
