Reports on anti-Semitism in various conventions were presented today at the plenary session of the World Conference of Jewish Organizations (CCJO).
One of the reports was on West Germany, It was given by Dr. Stephen Roth, European Director of the World Jewish Congress. He told the delegates that the emergence of the neo-Nazi National Democratic party was due to a gradual diminishing of political and economic factors which had served to deter extremism in West Germany in the early postwar era.
Arnold Forster, general counsel of the Anti-Defamation League of B’nai B’rith, reported on rightwing extremism in the United States. He charged that the racial right was spending millions of dollars in a sustained attack on the United Nations.
A crash program for an additional 1, 000 Jewish day schools throughout the world in the next decade was advocated at a session which opened the plenary of COJO and ended the meeting of the World Council on Jewish Education. The proposal was made by Rabbi Joseph H. Lookstein of New York, chairman of the World Council presidium. The Orthodox rabbinical leader said he was offering his proposal “as the most effective means of ensuring the preservation of Jewish life and Jewish tradition.”
