The Cabinet cancelled its regular weekly meeting today and is not expected to convene again until April 9, the second business day after Passover. The announcement said the session was called off because of the imminence of the Passover holiday which begins tomorrow night and because Premier Menachem Begin is suffering from an eye inflammation.
A number of ministers objected to the postponement since the Cabinet was slated to discuss ways and means of improving its performance and image, an item that has been on the agenda for many months. While Begin has approved the discussion, he refused to hold a session today. A group of ministers have prepared a series of proposals for Cabinet reforms; These Include restricting ministers to statements within the fields of their responsibility and issuing more detailed reports of Cabinet deliberations to the public in order to prevent leaks.
The Cabinet will meet during the Hol Hamoss period should an emergency arise. But the possibility of a regular meeting next Sunday was ruled out because of the final day of Passover next Monday.
