Appreciation of American aid to Israel was expressed here tonight by Levi Eshkol, Finance Minister, at a rally sponsored by the Israel-American Friendship League to mark American Independence Day. Guests of honor at the affair were Bruce McDaniel, retiring head of the American technical assistance program in Israel, and United States Charge d’Affaires Francis H. Russell.
Mr. Eshkol also paid tribute to Mr. McDaniel’s skillful administration of American aid in Israel. Trade Minister Peretz Bernstein noted the similarity between the declarations of American and Israel independence and said that Israel admired the U.S. for successfully leading the world through its democratic principles.
In reply, Mr. Russell paid tribute to the spirit of independence in both countries and hailed the Israeli friends of the U.S. Mr. McDaniel declared that "what we have done together in these brief years will long bear good fruit."
