Cabinet minister Yitzhak Herzog was questioned by police regarding alleged campaign finance violations in Prime Minister Ehud Barak’s 1999 election bid. The police investigation was launched in the wake of a report by the state comptroller accusing Herzog of channeling money to nonprofit organizations that campaigned for Barak’s election. Herzog has maintained he did nothing illegal.
