A motion declaring that Israel will refuse to dismantle Jewish settlements as part of any future peace agreement is expected to be approved by the Cabinet at its regular weekly session next Sunday and sent to the Knesset for ratification. The motion, introduced by Education Minister Zevulun Hammer of the National Religious Party, was warmly welcomed by Premier Menachem Begin who promised to bring it before the full Cabinet.
It is in line with Defense Minister Ariel Sharon’s order of the day issued yesterday on the completion of Israel’s withdrawal from Sinai. Sharon declared that with that withdrawal, “Israel has now reached the red line of its concessions…We shall turn to increasing and consolidating our settlements on the Golan Heights, in Judaea, Samaria and the Gaza District.”
The Ministerial Settlement Committee decided yesterday to establish seven new settlements on the West Bank and Golan Heights. The decision made at a joint meeting with World Zionist Organization representatives, approved the establishment of a new regional center in the northern Golan Heights, five new settlements in various parts of the West Bank and an urban settlement, to be known as Neot Adumim, in the Bethlehem region.
