The Board of Rabbis of Southern California reiterated today its opposition to Jewish participation in the Released Time program of the Los Angeles public schools which allows pupils time off from school to receive religious instruction in an institution of their choosing.
Rabbi Samson B. Levey, president of the Board, declared in a statement that “we are opposed to Released Time and continue to maintain that indoctrination and education in religion is the exclusive responsibility of the home, the synagogue and the church and it is not the business of the public schools, either through direct or indirect action.”
