The Hebrew Union College school here, the California branch of the Reform rabbinical seminary, has announced a gift of $240, 000 from Walter S. Hilborn, Jewish leader and philanthropist, for construction of the school’s new building when it moves to a site near the University of Southern California campus.
Jack Skirball, the school’s administrative board chairman, said, in announcing the gift, that Dr. Nelson Glueck, president of the seminary, has designated that the new building’s chapel be named in honor of the donor. Mr. Hilborn is a member of the HUC-Jewish Institute of Religion board of governors. He is also a past president of the Federation of Jewish Welfare Organizations.
When the new school is in operation, there will be an academic relationship with the University of Southern California under which there will be mutual exchange of academic credits, joint use of facilities and faculty supervision of students participating in the joint programs.
