Callers are swamping a toll-free telephone number set up for needy U.S. Holocaust survivors to apply for monies from a Swiss-sponsored humanitarian fund. The 80 staff operators at the application center received 3,360 calls for information during their first day of work, the World Jewish Restitution Organization said. Administrators expect to receive tens of thousands of calls at (800) 549-6864 before the end of the 3-month application deadline.
