The second annual week-end institute for Jewish military personnel from three Western states concluded at the Brande is Camp in Santa Susana Sunday night. Members of the armed forces who attended, participated in a three-day religious and cultural program which telescoped the customary month-long leadership training program given at the camp to Jewish college youth. More than 6, 000 youth have gone through the institute program since the founding of the camp in 1941.
Julius M, Cohen, area director for the Jewish Welfare Board, said that a national religious retreat at the camp is planned for military personnel next year, with servicemen flying in from all over the country.
Commander Elihu Rickel, assistant chaplain, 11th Naval District, San Diego, who was a guest lecturer, praised the Brandeis program for GI’s, terming it “ideal in helping contribute to their moral and spiritual growth.
