Lester Pearson, Canadian Minister for External Affairs, indicated today in the House of Commons that Canada may fill an Israeli request for 2 Canadian-made Sabre jet fighters. He told Parliament that he has been informed by Britain, United States and France that the “Big Three” would have no objection to such shipment.
Mr. Pearson pointed to what he called a trend toward an imbalance of military strength between Israel and the Arab states in favor of the Arabs, but he underlined that any decision in the matter would rest finally with the Canadian Government, not with the “Big Three.” The Minister denied reports that Israel had increased its request from 20 to 36 jets.
