Ben Lappin of Toronto, member of the faculty of the Social Work School in that city, has been awarded the 1959 Harry L. Lurie Fellowship, it was announced today by Stanley C. Myers of Miami, chairman of the Fellowship Award Committee. He will receive a grant of $1,500 to enable him to secure his doctorate in social work. His studies will include a project on the development of suburban area councils in metropolitan Toronto.
The Harry L. Lurie Fellowships were established by friends and colleagues of Mr. Lurie in tribute to his service of almost two decades as executive director of the Council of Jewish Federations and Welfare Funds, from which he retired in 1954. The Fellowships were designed to aid in the professional advancement of outstanding students who show a potential for leadership in the social work field.
