The Canadian Jewish Congress today urged in Quebec City the enshrining of a bill of rights in a new constitution of Canada. Appearing before the Legislative Assembly committee on the Constitution, the CJC also called for repeal of two sections of the British North America Act which require Jews to pay for education but denies Jews “the right to have anything to say about it.”
A third proposal called for the introduction of the Quebec Bill of Human Rights that would cover provincial powers such as property and civil rights, thus complementing the federal bill. The Congress delegation included Saul Hayes, Monroe Abbey, and Harold Lande.
