Samuel Moses Hurwitz, the first Canadian Jewish soldier to win two decorations in this war – the Military Medal, and the Distinguished Conduct Medal, an honor which ranks next to the Victoria Cross for other ranks – has died in a German prison camp, according to a report received here from overseas.
Sgt. Hurwitz was captured in a desperate battle in which he was wounded. He was one of five brothers who have seen service in this war. Since the outbreak of the war Sgt. Hurwitz had been attached to an armored regiment.
