The Canadian Jewish Congress will urge the Federal Government to give its support to current proposals before the United Nations in regard to gencocide, the protection of civilians in time of war, the convention on the declaration of death of missing persons, the status of refugees and the Declaration of Human Rights, it was stated here today by Saul Hayes, executive director of the Congress.
“A problem has been created by the fact that millions of Jewish and other persons have died during the war without the fact of their death being legally established,” Mr. Hayes said. “Congress has therefore sought to secure Canadian approval of an international convention on the declaration of death of missing persons, which will help hundreds of people to claim the property and assets of those whose whereabouts are unknown.”
