The Canadian Jewish Congress reported today it had been asked by the town of Mount Royal for a Jewish calendar to avoid a repetition of a meeting of taxpayers called on Yom Kippur eve to vote on a loan bylaw.
Mayor Dawson extended an apology for the date, which made it impossible for many Jewish residents to attend and vote on the bylaw proposal. He said the error was “unfortunate but innocent” and that the town council had been instructed to obtain a Jewish calendar “so the mistake would not be made again.”
