Canadian neo-Nazis resumed their hate-peddling activities this weekend when Jewish residents of the Toronto area received anti-Semitic “New Year’s Greeting cards” signed “with best wishes from the Canadian Nazis.” Extremists also mingled with the crowds outside a performance here of the Beatles, urging the spectators to send one dollar to a Flesherton, Ontario, address, for a copy of the infamous canard, “The Protocols of the Elders of Zion.”
The “greeting” cards, sent to hundreds of Jewish residents in Toronto, Hamilton and other parts of southern Ontario, pictured a stereotyped figure holding a brief case bearing a Star of David against a background of a swastika design. The envelopes bore a Toronto postmark and were sent to names apparently obtained from a Jewish mailing list. The recipients in Toronto included synagogues, rabbis and Jewish communal offices.
The leaflets offering to send copies of the “Protocols,” were distributed outside the Maple Leaf Gardens here. Police picked up and questioned those distributing the leaflets but later released them. It was also reported here today that David Stanly, who has been identified with various neo-Nazi activities, is now back in Canada after spending the summer in Birmingham, Alabama, where he was associated with the States Rights Party.
