Canadian rabbinical authorities are studying a new method of pre-Shechita handling of cattle in order to determine whether it is acceptable from the Jewish religious point of view, it was disclosed today.
The proposed method, devised by Canada Packers and tried at the Canada Packers abbatoir in Toronto, brings the cattle into position prior to Shechita by hoisting them in a sling. A group of rabbis representing the Canadian Jewish Congress Religious Welfare Committee and the Orthodox Division of the Congress were given a demonstration of the method and later discussed it at length with Canada Packers officials.
