The question of settling Jews on land in Canada — if it could be assured that they would stay on the land — is raised by the Montreal Star in an editorial.
“The Jews are proving themselves excellent cultivators of the land in Palestine,” the Star says. “The old belief that they were only town dwellers, traders and money-changers is proven a libel. They can live on the land. We in Canada have lots of vacant land. We need settlers who will be content to live on it.
“Has the Jewish community enough organization to try a few settlements of this sort in parts of Canada where there is room? Could there be any guarantee that they would stay there?– for this, under present conditions would be essential.”
