Jimmy Carter has accepted an invitation to address the Conference of Presidents of Major American Jewish Organizations on Thursday, Sept. 30, it was announced today. The site of the meeting has not yet been fixed.

Rabbi Alexander M. Schindler, chairman of the Presidents Conference, said the Democratic Presidential nominee will speak on foreign policy and other issues of concern to the Jewish community. A similar invitation has been extended to President Ford, Schindler said, but no response has yet been received from the White House.

In 1972, Sen. George McGovern, the Democratic candidate, addressed the Presidents Conference. In 1968, Nixon, the Republican nominee, and Hubert H. Humphrey, the Democratic nominee, both spoke at meetings of the Presidents Conference during that election campaign.

In addition to representatives of the Presidents Conference’s 32 constituent organizations, invitations will be extended to leaders of local Jewish community bodies across the country, making the meeting “even more national in scope,” Schindler said. He added that Carter will answer questions from the audience following his address.
