Ricky Candace, a Catholic service station owner in this suburban New York town, has offered the profits earned by his business on Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year’s Day to the building fund for a synagogue for the Jewish community of Hewlett. Mr. Candace, who normally closes his business on these holidays, will fill all his pumps and permit volunteers from the Jewish community to run them for the holidays and use the profits toward a $50,000 building fund of the Hewlett Temple.
