Several Catholic groups organized today in support of Father Coughlin. The executive committee of the Brooklyn Holy Name Society, claiming 200,000 members, threatened Station YMCA with a boycott of its advertisers unless the priest was returned to the air over that station. The Committee for Defense of Americans’ Constitutional Rights announced a mass meeting in protest against “radio purges” of Father Coughlin and others. The Jersey City Council of the Knights of Columbus, of which Mayor Frank Hague is a member, also went on record in support of the Detroit priest.
