The period between November, 1965 and June, 1966 has been designated for the celebration across Canada of the 60th anniversary of Canadian Labor Zionism, according to an announcement today by Leon Kronitz, president of the Labor Zionist movement of Canada and chairman of its special 60th Jubilee Committee. This nation-wide series of celebrations will mark the anniversary of the establishment of the first branch of Poale Zion in Canada.
The series of commemorations will be inaugurated in Montreal at a meeting on November 14 at which Marie Syrkin, member of the executive of the Jewish Agency, will be guest speaker. Celebrations in Canadian cities large and small will follow.
Mr. Kronitz stressed the pioneering role of Labor Zionism in the establishment of outstanding Jewish community institutions which are now taken for granted. Among these institutions are: Canadian Jewish Congress; Jewish Peoples Schools and Peretz Schools in Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Windsor, Jewish public libraries in various cities, the Israel Histadrut Campaign, and Canapal — Canada Israel Investment Corporation. Mr. Kronitz pointed with particular pride to the Movement’s youth organization, Habonim, and to its network of five camps from Montreal to Vancouver.
