Congressman Emanuel Celler yesterday went on record as being opposed to participation by the United States in the Olympic games in 1936 which are scheduled in Germany, on the ground that he discredits Nazi claims of equality of opportunity for Jewish athletes.
In a cable to Brigadier General Charles H. Sherrill, American member of the International Olympic Committee, who is in Greece, Mr. Celler said: “Any government that abets Jewish persecutions and which threatens daily through Dr. Goebbels to intensify anti-Jewish atrocities cannot be trusted to keep its promise not to discriminate against Jewish athletes.”
