Congressman Emanuel Celler, Brooklyn Democrat, said tonight that emphasis by the Eisenhower Administration on military aid had worsened relations between Israel and the Arab states. He told 1,000 delegates and guests of Brith Abraham at the fraternal order’s 72nd annual convention here, that policy has been “geared to military aid in a manner that has provoked animosities, “and that the result had been the growth of “mischief” in many parts of the world, particularly “in an area of tremendous strategic value, the Middle East.”
“Relations between the Arab nations and Israel have been exacerbated by the emphasis on military aid to the Arab nations. The results we have seen for ourselves in the internal dissension between the Arab countries. We have neither made friends nor gained respect of the countries we sought to appease,” said Mr. Celler.
