Inauguration of the first library in the United States of books burned by the German Nazis after Hitler came to power will be observed at a banquet Saturday at the Brooklyn Jewish Center, 667 Eastern parkway, at which Professor Albert Einstein is scheduled to speak.
Other notables who will be present at the banquet include Dr. Stephen S. Wise, Dr. S. Parkes Cadman, Will Durant and Heinz Liepmann, refugee who wrote “Murder—Made in Germany.”
The library, modeled after similar collections of volumes displeasing to the Hitlerites which have been assembled in London and Paris, will be housed temporarily at the Brooklyn Jewish Center. Later it will be moved to a more central point in Manhattan, if present plans are consummated. Completion of the library is expected by May 10, 1935.
Members of an advisory board include Theodore Dreiser, Upton Sinclair, Sholom Asch, Ludwig Lewisohn, Dr. Abba Hillel Silver, James W. Gerard, Oswald Garrison Villard, Miss Lillian D. Wald and Aldermanic President Bernard S. Deutsch.
The committee in charge of arrangements for the banquet comprises Louis J. Gribetz, David Shapiro and Joseph Goldberg.
