A conference on Jewish education was held here, attended by representatives of all Jewish educational agencies of the city and institutions interested in the promulgation of Jewish education, including the B’nai Brith Lodge No. 487, and the Los Angeles Zionist District.
Fifteen Hebrew schools sent representatives to the conference which was presided over by Judge Elias V. Rosenkranz, chairman of the Jewish Educational Association of Los Angeles, I. Irving Lipsitch, the executive director of the Federation of Jewish Welfare Organizations acted as the secretary to the conference.
A resolution was adopted to create a central Bureau of Jewish education. A committee on organization and constitution was elected with the following members: Judge Elias V. Rosenkranz, Chairman; I. Irving Lipsitch, Ben M. Goldman, J. M. Alkow. M. Tannenhaum, E. Avin, A. A. Weitzman.
The constitution will be formulated for the united Jewish school system of the city, including all Jewish educational agencies. After some discussion, it was decided to admit those schools which are known as the Yiddishe Folke Schule.
A report made public at the conference on the number of children in the Hebrew schools of Los Angeles and the amount expended, disclosed there are 1,168 children and the cost is $57,200.
The funeral of William Rubin, of Syracuse, N. Y., was attended by Mayor Charles G. Hanna, Col. Joseph Bondy, Chancellor Charles W. Flint of Syracuse University, Supreme Court Justice Ernest I. Edgcomb, and many other notables.
Mr. Rubin was 57 years old.
