While the acuteness of the danger to the Jews from the Nazis is diminishing, a growing anti-Semitic tendency is noticeable among the Left parties, it was brought out yesterday at a press conference called by the Central Union of German Citizens of the Jewish Faith.
The Left Wing parties are agitating against the Jews because of the attitude of individual Jewish employers who favor the government of Chancellor Franz von Papen and also approve measures for the reduction of wages, it was pointed out by Dr. Alfred Weiner, counsel of the Central Union and Hans Reichmann.
Speakers expressed the opinion that the forthcoming elections will not result in victory for the Nazi aspirations to secure control of the government. The Nazis themselves, they stated, estimate a loss of fifty seats in the next Reichstag. On the other hand there is as yet no ground for excessive optimism, it was emphasized.
The Central Union representative in Koenigsberg, Matzdorf, stated that the panic among the Jews in the small towns shows no signs of abating, that the Jews continue to remain indoors, fearing attacks should they venture out.
