Chaim Gershater, editor of the Zionist Record here, died suddenly yesterday at the age of 54. He had undergone an operation recently and had returned to his post fully recovered.
Mr. Gershater was born in Krekenava, Lithuania and came to South Africa in 1926. He became editor of the weekly Zionist Record in 1943. Well known in local Jewish cultural life, he had been the correspondent for British and Israel periodicals. He was the author of “Thirty Days in Israel.”
