A formal declaration on the floor of the Free City’s Senate, withdrawing charges brought against the Jewish Senators Yewelowski and Dr. Kennitzer, was made by Dr. Zihm, Nationalist Senator and former vice-president of the Senate. Dr. Zihm was compelled to declare that he withdraws his accusations against the Jewish Senators because they had been found groundless by an investigation commission of the Senate.
The charge brought against the Jewish Senators by a number of anti-Semitic Deputies was that they had given false oaths and had favored the commercial agreement between the Free City of Danzig and the Republic of Poland for their own private interests.
The Jewish Senators started libel proceedings against the Danzig deputies when they published articles framing the charges against them. Steps were taken to lift the immunity of the deputies to enable the suit, and the Jewish deputies also asked the legislative body of the Free City to lift their immunity in order that the defamers would be free to start a counter-suit.
It was stated at that time that it would be unlikely that immunity would be lifted since the majority of the deputies did not believe the ridiculous accusations brought against the Jewish Senators and considered court proceedings unnecessary. An investigation commission was then named to study the case.
